The book is fabulous and written with Jenny's typical wry wit. The content is refreshingly redundant: maintain a rigorous wheat/gluten/preservative/dairy free diet and illness will vanish. After 30 days of detox, major shifts in personal health occur.
Jenny's son, Evan, was misdiagnosed with epilepsy at 2 1/2 years after a series of seizures and black outs. Then she went to a specialist who diagnosed autism. The DAN doctor (Defeat Autism Now!) sent her to a play therapy group where she met other moms who were trying anything alternative, spiritual, holistic or otherwise to "awaken" their children from autism. She took their advice and read a book, Special Diets for Special Kids Two.
God made our bodies. They are created following certain laws. Disobey these laws and disease will occur. You can call the disease cancer, heart disease, allergies, depression or autism but it is all the same - an ignorance of the laws in which you were created."After a couple of weeks, the tantrums had diminished
by half. I continued to research online all the different gluten- and
casein-free recipes and started to find things getting easier...
About three weeks had gone by with Evan on the diet,
and I was putting away dishes in the kitchen when I felt a tug on my leg.
I looked down and saw Evan's big blue eyes staring at me. It wasn't his
normal glazed-over look. He seemed clear-eyed. He tugged on my leg
again, and I got down on my knees and said, "Hey little bird, what's going
on?"
He look at me again and said with all of his might,
"Want...to...go...swimming."
...Chills went through my whole body, and I cried as
John and Evan splashed in the water. Up to this point Evan would say only
one word at a time, and only words for objects. The fact that he had just
blurted out a four-word sentence was honestly a miracle. I knew it was the
diet that had helped clear the fog, because within that week Evan responded to
my calling his name every time I said it. He also didn't seem drunk.
Mind you, he was in no way cured from autism, but just three weeks prior, he had
been locked in a world of spinning toys and ignoring people. Now he was
actually trying to tell me what he wanted and was responding to people in the
room.
Even though this progress made me so happy, I couldn't
help but be pissed off that doctors weren't telling moms to at least try
it. They really were against the diet. My thinking is that if the
diet works on some autistic kids, that would link it to vaccines, and God forbid
that happened. Doctors will never admit it, and it's a useless war to try
and fight."

- Your body has a pH balance. The balance must be alkaline. If your personal pH is acidic, you are sick.
- Vegetables, whole grains, beans, and fruit are alkaline to the body.
- Meat, dairy and cooked foods are acidic to the body.
- Your body has a finite amount of digestive enzymes. Exhaust your personal enzyme store and you will be sick.
- Raw whole foods carry with them their own enzymes thus eliminating the need to draw on your personal store.
- Cooked food, preservatives, chemicals, hormone laden meat and sugar require large amounts of digestive enzymes pulled from your liver, pancreas and gall bladder.
- Your body must be hydrated in order to operate properly
- Your body must be well oxygenated through the foods you eat.

I contend, "It's not that nutrition has been tried and found insufficient - it's that nutrition has not been tried at all."
Great post! I enjoyed reading it. :)
