Gadget No-No: Microwave

What is a microwave oven? The microwave oven was invented by accident when a researcher was working with radiation and noticed the chocolate bar in his pocket had melted. By containing the waves in a metal box, he could "cook" popcorn by running microwaves through the food causing an internal movement in the cells to produce heat. Conventional cooking methods conduct heat the opposite direction - into the food from the outside. That is why it takes longer to cook conventionally - you must wait for the heat to reach the inside of the food and start the cell vibration which indicates "heat".

Water, fat and other substances absorb the dielectric heating. This causes the formation of new radiolytic compounds unknown to man's bodies or nature's produce. The food cells are changed.

So what?

  • After food has been removed from the microwave it continues to cook due to the radiation contained inside the food. If you put a heated microwave product in your stomach, your stomach walls "cook". Unlike conventionally heated foods which instantly begin to cool.
  • Vitamins and minerals are denatured at best, formed into radiated substances at worst. On a daily basis your goal is to ingest food at its highest enzymatic state. This is not the way to do it.
  • Microwaving deforms the structure of the molecules in the food and weakens cell membranes which is not beneficial to healthy cell processes or cell-building.
  • The Soviet Union banned microwave ovens in 1976.
  • The State of Minnesota issued a warning to parents heating baby bottles as to the molecular changes in milk and formula which could be harmful to the baby's health.
  • A German study concluded that radiation levels of light-emitting bacteria were highest in those who ate microwaved food. Hans Hertel carried out studies showing that the blood of those who ingested microwaved food showed pathological changes.

I have not had a microwave in my home since 2001. I don't serve my family foods that have been heated using radiation. I urge you to consider the effects of eating food that has been changed molecularly. Trust your instincts on this one. My instincts say no.

Sell the microwave. You can get about $215 by selling a good one on www.craigslist.com.
Invest a few extra minutes in cooking the food the right way. Use a crock pot to slow cook foods all day. Stick leftovers in a covered glass dish in the oven for 20 minutes. Always strive for vitamin density, whole-food enzyme activity and an alkalizing of the body.
